Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is our very great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 8th Asian Regional Congress of Labour and Social Security Law, to be held in Taipei, Taiwan from October 31 to November 3, 2005.
This is the first time that the Congress to be convened in Asia under its new name, the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law. There are also two new practices which will be adopted for this Congress. First of all, rather than just submitting their written reports as was common practice in the past, country reporters will now be invited to submit their written reports and present them personally at the Congress. Secondly, there is a call for papers where other people can submit and present their papers at the Congress.
We sincerely hope the greater openness of the Congress can provide scholars, practitioners and public policymakers alike, with greater opportunities to share their experiences and exchange their ideas with each other on some of the major issues affecting the Asian economies.
The main themes of this Congress are, (i) the participation of women in the labour market ˇV towards the goal of gender equality in employment in the 21st century; (ii) the impetus for economic restructuring and the protection of workersˇ¦ rights; and (iii) the Asian experiences of the old-age security or pension system. These are all important issues facing the Asian economies today, and it is our hope that through the discussions, sharing of experiences and exchange of ideas, not only can we gain a better understanding of these issues, in terms of how they affect our lives, but also that the information generated in these gatherings will be of help to public policymakers in their future policy formulation.
Again we cordially invite you and your colleagues to participate in this stimulating international Congress. Taipei is a modern metropolis full of vigor and vitality, and famous for its bustling business centers, energetic nightlife and colorful marketplaces; it is a city which has successfully integrated tradition with modernity in a very rapid and dynamic way.
We look forward to greeting you here in Taipei and feel sure that you will enjoy this Congress, as well as the opportunity to tour this exciting city.
